How can I use a 'Related Items' type field?

Once you setup Related Items filed you can add Related items on Info page in right side
note: value for this filed can't be entered in form, just on info page

I don't understand the purpose of the 'related items' field...
can you give me an example of how I would actually use it in a real-world scenario?
Why and how would I use it?
I am trying to see how I can get inventory to work with trouble tickets.
I created a Vendors module, a Part Numbers module, and an Inventory module.
I can specify Vendors in the part numbers module, and I can specify part numbers in the inventory module.
But I can't figure out how to attach parts from the inventory module as assigned to a trouble ticket.
I want our cytometry department to use this but they need to be able to specify what parts they used in trouble tickets.
They need to be able to see in a trouble ticket what parts were used, and they need to be able to see what parts are still left unused in inventory so they know when they need to order more parts.
Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated!

Related items are items that linked by ID to other items and you can link them directly on info page.
In your case you have to create Related Tickets field for Inventory Entity
Also if you want to see Related Inventory on Ticket page so you have to create Related Inventory fields for Ticket Entity too.
