field type as extension

Hi,

I mad a new field type for calculating the end time based on the start time and the predicted hours.
This is based on the time difference field type with all the features of the time difference (dynamic presentation, work hours, holidays etc.) including a database function and translations (only english and dutch).

Is it possible to convert this to an extension?
Otherwise the field type is gone after an update.

Or maybe you could include this in the next release?

This is one for the suggestions forum.
I agree that the ability to be able to add our own fieldtypes would be a useful feature.

Adding own field types is indeed a suggestion, but my question was can I write an extension that does the same as the field type I made.
Thus adding estimated work hours to the start date to calculate the end date with the same options as the 'time difference' field type (work hours only, skipping weekends and holidays).
It doesn't have to be a field type, if the options and end result are the same.
