Auto Increment not working in Automation

When I try to set up an automation to add an item (in this case an invoice) in an entity, the autoincrement field I set up so as to have unique IDs is not being activated. The record is created but the field is blank. This seems to be the case no matter what options I select in the automation set up (e.g., manual, auto, etc.).
