Database Error 2006

I receive this error when I try to add a user that is not an Admin.

Database Error: 2006 - MySQL server has gone away

Update: If I take away the email configuration, then I can add a user.

Looks like issue with sending email. Do you use SMTP? If so try to turn in off or use another smpt server and do test agian.
